IGF 2020 OF #23 EU Delegation to the IGF & the Youth IGF
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) serves to bring people together from various stakeholder groups as equals, in discussions on public policy issues relating to the Internet. While there is no negotiated outcome, the IGF informs and inspires those with policy-making power in both the public and private sectors. In the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on 16 December 2015, (70/125) ‘Outcome document of the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society’, the existing mandate of the IGF as set out in paragraphs 72 to 78 of the Tunis Agenda was extended for another 10 years.
The event in the center of our blogpost is the Fifteenth Annual Meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) that will be hosted online by the United Nations under the overarching theme Internet for human resilience and solidarity. The program develops around the four main thematic tracks: (1) Data; (2) Environment; (3) Inclusion; (4) Trust. The IGF 2020 pre-events, newcomers sessions, thematic introductory sessions, as well as the Open Forums, NRIs, and DC sessions will be hosted on 2–6 November during the meeting’s first phase. The meeting will be officially opened on 9 November and closed on 17 November. During this 7-day phase, workshops, main sessions, the high-level leader’s track, a parliamentary roundtable, and thematic concluding sessions will be hosted.
The Marketing Specialist (محمد مداحی) from our team took a part in the High-Level UN IGF Open Forum on the topic of the engagement of the Youth IGF leaders during the COVID crisis and the role of the youth activism in digital in the scope of resolution of crises.
The main theme of the event was Trust, which is defined by the UN powered IGF as the discussion of strategies and best practices for ensuring trust in the online world, along with the roles and responsibilities of governments, industry, and other stakeholders.
One of the focus points was also to see how the recommendations for action that can emerge from the present Open Forum can be taken into consideration at national and regional levels and what needs to be done to achieve this.
The Organizers of the event were TaC-Together against Cybercrime International and the European Parliament European Commission.

All in all, the meeting lasted for 60 minutes. However, it proved that a meaningful and fruitful discussion can happen between the youth and the prominent speakers on various topics. Once again we are grateful to have been part of this amazing discussion and we are looking forward to a less problematic future and present & youth help churn out better policies.
